The Most Important Factor in Getting Better At Jiu Jitsu

November 9, 2018 by whorneff310 Leave a Comment

Personally, I’m always trying to figure out ways that I can get better at jiu jitsu. I’ve scoured the internet for tips on training, watched youtube for hours, and saved countless clips of technique to my hard drive (it’s actually stored on cloud, but hard drive has a better ring to it). Despite this, over the years I realized that all of this was just icing on the cake.

Consistency was what really mattered. The innovative techniques and training theory, interviews with top coaches and athletes, the sports psychology — all of it goes to waste if you don’t consistently get yourself jiu jitsu class and train. Why? Because unless you’re actually on the mats applying them, all of the best techniques, theories, and mindsets are just ideas in the mind.

Thus we reach the following logical argument:

Consistency = C
Progress = P
“+” = increase
“-” = decrease

If C = P, then +C = +P, and -C = -P

In other words, whatever adds a “+” to consistency (increases it) also boosts progress. On the other hand, whatever adds a “-” to consistency consequently limits progress.

Top 5 Things that increase consistency

Top 5 Things that limit consistency
